Metal contact dermatitis in the instrumental and general music classrooms: Removing dermatological barriers

The learning goals of this independent study are:
  • Obtain a broader understanding of metal contact dermatitis and how it may affect a student's ability to fully participate in the instrumental and general music classrooms.
  • Explore adaptive techniques to make instruments found in the instrumental and general music classrooms accessible for students with metal contact dermatitis.
  • Learn how to recognize allergic reactions due to metal contact dermatitis and what to do in an emergency situation.
The form of results for this study will be:
  • A list of sources for the music educator that addresses metal contact dermatitis and its role in the music classroom.
